How does farming affect the enviroment?
It turns out farming can impact an environment tremendously. 1) Farmers clear land by cutting trees and burning them. Then they use the ash as fertilizer for their crops. After course of several years, the soils nutrition is depleted and they move on the next site. Meanwhile, the farmland is used for grazing pasture for cows. That’s why beef is so cheap at fast food restaurants. This is what is happening at the Amazon rain forest. 2) Water irrigation from rivers wash a lot of the fertilizers used by farmers and creates a pollution known as Eutrophication. The fertilizer is washed into our drinking water supply as well as into some lakes/streams creating an algae bloom. Then the algae is eaten by bacteria and small creatures creating a lack of oxygen in water and killing off many species that breath underwater. 3) Sometimes water irrigation from lakes and rivers can completely deplete a regions water source as it happened to a few seas in the Soviet countries.
