You start by entering information about yourself and your immediate family. Then you expand from there. The software is very intuitive, and I barely needed to read the manual to learn how to use it. You enter the information on “cards”. There are spaces for names, dates, marriages, divorces, and other unions, children, etc. Then you can click down one or two levels to add indepth information, such as “important facts,” “health information,” or even text notes that you can type in like a word processor. When you are done entering the information, you can format it in several ways: A decendent tree, an ascendent tree, a fan-shaped tree, and many types of reports. Lots of Formatting Options Family Tree Maker gives you many options for formatting your information. You can organize facts very easily in any number of ways.
