How does Exact Editions highlight the results of a search?
The Exact Editions database knows where on the page every word is. It records the occurrence and the precise co-ordinates of the area of the page occupied by the type. The system then highlights the term by drawing a rectangle round the term and projecting that onto the image which shows the page in your browser. The searching, the list of results and the highlighting are all done in real time (you may have asked a question that has never been framed before), so it has to be efficient.
