When a medication is recalled by the FDA, the software immediately inactivates the medication to prevent new prescriptions from being written. The ePrescribe Iowa database is updated on a real-time basis to reflect FDA actions such as black-box warnings and “dear doctor” letters. Physicians also can instantly generate electronic reports to determine which patients may have received recalled medications.
