How does ENERGY STAR test the lifetime of SSL luminaires?
Manufacturers submit test results that are used to predict a product’s useful life using industry-accepted test procedures. Tests are conducted on the LED device as well as the luminaire and are submitted to ENERGY STAR for evaluation. Because LEDs do not burn out like incandescent or fluorescent products, ENERGY STAR defines useful life at the point at which 70 percent of the initial light output is maintained.
