Encryption software encodes data before it is transmitted over the Internet to another computer. Most major commercial browsers include encryption software, including the 4.0 and higher versions of Netscape™ Navigator and Microsoft® Explorer. Two of the most widely used encryption levels are 40-bit and 128-bit, and many browsers today offer both.
