How does Eldepryl / Selegiline HCL work?
Selegiline HCL is the hydrochloride salt, an orally taken monoamine oxidase inhibitor. It works by prolonging the anti-Parkinson activity of levodopa, which in turn help to slow down the progression of Parkinson disease by slowing the breakdown of certain natural substances in the brain. Selegiline has no anti-Parkinson effects of its own and must always be given in combination with levodopa/carbidopa. Approval of Selegiline HCL by FDA was not much away with its proven efficacy and results. Eldepryl was developed by Glaxo SmithKline.
