How does EA choose Software Engineer interns out of the many candidates who apply?
We review many, many resumes for internship positions. For Software Engineers, we look for prior game programming experience as well as a high level of enthusiasm for working at EA. We look for programmers who demonstrate the ability to jump into a project and make strong contributions right away. Our interns typically work on existing codebase, which means they should possess a working knowledge of 3D graphics programming and the ability to work on code in a manner that won’t require re-writing or extensive maintenance. We prefer internship candidates with experience in 3D graphics programming. In fact, nothing impresses us more than someone who can show us an example of a 3D game that we can actually play. We like to see candidates with experience in environment mapping, gouraud shading and vertex coloring of textured polys, and mip mapping.
