How does Duke adhere to HIPAA/FERPA requirements regarding counseling and confidentiality?
The Counseling and Psychological Services Center (CAPS) and Duke Student Health are HIPAA compliant facilities within the integrated health care system of Duke University. FERPA protects a student’s education recod but allows for communnication with parents and university personnel in the event of an emergency or if a studnet poses a threat to him/herself or others. Additionally, we are in full compliance with state and federal mental health laws.
