How Does Dry Rot Affect Wood?
Rot Disease One symptom of plant disease is rot. The plant begins to decay due to infestation of bacteria or fungi that kills its cells. Diseases that cause rot include bitter rot, black rot, brown rot, potato late blight and dry rot. Water and Moisture Dry rot occurs when wood comes in constant contact with water or moisture. This exposure allows fungus to grow and to weaken the structure of the wood. If left unchecked, the wood will begin to deteriorate. The substance in the wood that makes it stiff and strong is what the fungus consumes. Wood Flooring Wood flooring in rooms with high exposure to water, such as bathrooms, can be prone to dry rot, if the floors have not been properly dried or have experienced extended periods of wetness. Flooding can bring on dry rot, if the invading water is not removed properly and wood areas are not thoroughly dried.
