When more alcohol is consumed in a short period of time the physical effects (intoxication) are greater. DeeJay gave a good answer. Kfaulk21 almost was there but fell short. But the great majority is absorbed in the stomach and intestines. The warm alcohol does find its way into the blood faster as blood vessels are dilated from the warm liquid increasing the transfer rate.
