How Does Drain-water Heat Recovery Work?
Watercycle™ is a water-to-water heat exchanger that replaces a section of drain pipe and recovers valuable heat from the wastewater as it goes down the drain. I love the simplicity of this appliance. It’s just a solid copper section of drain pipe with the incoming cold water line coiled tightly around it. As the cold water passes through the coil on its way to the hot water heater, it absorbs heat from the hot water going down the drain. Presto! The cold water entering the hot water heater is 12-14°C warmer than it would have been otherwise. Works with any type of water heater. Benefits of Drain-water Heat Recovery • Save 20% to 40% of your water heating cost (5% – 10% of your home energy cost) • Grants are available in Canada and the US (Click here for details) • Extend the life of your hot water heater • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions with lower energy consumption • Increase efficiency of your tankless water heater • Increase efficiency of your geothermal system • Extend number of d
