Training should really be done with a private trainer because the distraction level is WAY too high for a pup at the group classes. Those classes are, however, a wonderful way to see how your already trained dog performs under the distractions of that environment. The 6 months time period that people are talking about are only for compulsion training. For positive reinforcement and motivational training, training can and should begin earlier. The main thing is to bond with the pup and establlish good obedience groundwork…but not to correct the pup or put too much pressure on them. If you go to a private trainer that uses motivational training, training can begin around 15 weeks for some quick-learning breeds, 20 weeks or so for some of the slower breeds.
