Jprobe and OptimizeIt are excellent third party tools that are well-suited to the development phase of projects. They provide great amounts of detailed information with little or no developer instrumentation work. DMS is best suited for deployed systems in which there is no opportunity for configuring new tools, no allowance for restarting servers, and no tolerance for runtime overhead. DMS is also well suited for complex sites that run multi-process servers.
