How does diet effect Haemostasis?
A group of blood cells called platelets are responsible for the early stage of hemostasis, but in general, a whole group of chemical reactions (called the coagulation cascade) is needed to generate a substance called fibrin which is needed in the later stage of hemostasis. Some of the reactions in the coagulation cascade require Vitamin K, which is commonly found in green leafy vegetables. So, eating a diet lacking in vitamin K will make someone unable to activate the coagulation cascade, and thus have impaired hemostasis.
