How does density affect ocean currents?
Density can affect ocean currents by causing areas where water sinks or rises. Dense sinking water such as the spots near iceland creates a river of water on the seafloor flowing south. The vacuum caused by the sinking water pulls the Gulf current northward. Similarly, the rising water, mostly in the Pacific, is the other end of the oceanic system. It is the end of the seafloor current and the start of the surface current that becomes the gulfstream.
