How does DCNR protect the environment and the forest in its leases?
Forests provide clean water, recreation opportunities, a diversity of wildlife and plants, and wood and mineral products all critical to healthy and sustainable communities and to our Commonwealth as a whole. Our public forests have been managed carefully for 100 years. DCNR retains ownership and complete control of the land. DCNRs leases contractually require corporate responsibility, minimization of the drilling operations footprint, department approval of drilling sites, oversight by DCNR personnel, and significant bonding provisions over and above regulatory requirements.
