How does CrypKey identify the hard drive?
CrypKey can use the IDE hard drive’s serial number, but by default, it does not. Instead, CrypKey uses a revolutionary technology called unique state dependence to identify not only the computer, but also the instance of your software. When software is put on a hard drive, the action of installing it causes the state of the computer to changes. CrypKey generates a unique number associated with this state. It also adds some intelligent management so that a user can move software to another computer or defragment the hard drive without causing license problems. Simply put, CrypKey makes changes to the hard drive to make it different than any other hard drive. Even when two computers are identical, CrypKey creates differences so it can determine with certainty, whether the computer is authorized to run the software or what, if any,limitations should be imposed.
