How does Critical Strike work?
A common misconception of Critical Strike is that it doubles your final damage, including the elemental and poison damage. However, it applies only on your base physical damage. For example if one has 1000 base physical damage and 500 elemental damage (totaling up to1500 damage), you’ll do 2500 damage if the Critical Strike activates upon the hit. As for Critical Strike working in conjunction with other items that give you chance to do a ‘Deadly Strike’ (which also allows you to do double the damage), the game will first check for the chance of Critical Strike activating then check the chance of ‘Deadly Strike’ activating. The damage, however, doesn’t get quadrupled because Blizzard has disabled Critical Strike working on top of ‘Deadly Strike’ as well. Therefore, if you have both, you just have more chance of dealing double the damage.
