How does Cotton Absorb Water?
Cotton absorbs water by water’s natural ability to cling. If you fill a clear glass or bottle with water almost to the top, and then set it on a flat surface and look level at it, you will notice the top of the water is slightly rounded downwards. This is because water molecules like to cling to one another, and not give up their touching status. Water molecules cling to the fibers that make up cloth and thread, and then cling to other water molecules, allowing the cloth and fabric and thread to absorb the water molecules, and make it seem like the water is disappearing.
