How does cost sharing impact the classification of space?
Cost sharing has a significant impact on the classification of space. Space relative to a faculty member’s effort on grant/contract research projects should be classified as Sponsored/Organized Research, whether his/her effort is paid by the grant/contract or cost shared by departmental funds. It is important for departments to maintain documentation on cost sharing expenditures including maintaining data that shows how the actual expenditures related to the cost sharing were funded.
