HOW DOES COMCAST DIGITAL VOICE® SERVICE ROUTE 911 CALLS?
Comcast owns and operates regulated Competitive Local Exchange Companies (CLECs) in each state where we provide Comcast Digital Voice® service. Operating our own CLECs gives Comcast Digital Voice the ability to route 911 calls directory to facilities that serve public safety answering points (PSAPs), without traversing the public Internet. This, in turn, allows us to better ensure that our Comcast Digital Voice customers’ 911 calls are delivered reliably to the correct public safety answering points (PSAPs), and that the Automatic Location Information (ALI) (i.e., customer service address) associated with the caller’s telephone number is transmitted to the PSAP, as with a traditional home phone service.
