How does ColCount work?
ColCount was specifically designed to overcome the tedious and labour-intensive task of counting mammalian cell colonies. It utilizes a 16-bit digital camera and wide-angle lens system to capture an image of the dish or flask to be counted. The image is transferred via a Firewire connection to the PC where a proprietary CHARM (Compact Hough and Radial Map) image processing algorithm detects colonies within user-defined image area(s).
