How does CHIPRA affect NC HIPP members?
Children’s Health Insurance Program Authorization Act (CHIPRA), Public Law 111-3, provides employees and their dependents with a special enrollment right in group health plan coverage without having to wait for an open enrollment period if the employee or dependent becomes eligible for NC HIPP under its CHIP or Medicaid program, if otherwise eligible for a group health plan. Enrollment must be requested within 60 days after the date the employee or dependent is determined to be eligible for NC HIPP.
