How does CDA interface with the Value-Added Assessment System (VAAS)?
CDA and the PA Value-Added Assessment System (PVAAS) were designed for two distinct purposes, yet complement each other nicely. PVAAS can be used to look at district, school, or teacher effectiveness in a grade or content area based on students’ expected growth or progress. PVAAS uses a minimum of two years standardized test data to predict the expected growth (progress) of students on the PSSA. PVAAS is also useful in helping schools and teachers determine if they are closing the achievement gap among various groups of students. In short, PVAAS is used to look at student progress over time; it does not look at student achievement or progress in relation to meeting a benchmark or standard. CDA supplements PVAAS in two ways. CDA can be used to investigate student achievement in relation to meeting state and/or district standards, allowing districts and teachers to have the complete picture (student progress over time from PVAAS and student achievement in meeting a benchmark or standard
