How does bulk traffic compare to PPC (pay-per-click) advertising?
Bulk traffic, except for language and/or geo targeting, is non-targeted. PPC ads like google AdWords are targeted to a specific search query for the potential customer. Think of bulk traffic like a television advertisement. While you are watching your favorite show, you see a pepsi commercial. The commercial is non-targeted, meaning it is delivered to all viewers, regardless if they drink soda or not. It is strictly a numbers game to reach thousands of potential customers at once and to help brand the product. Normally, targeted traffic converts better. The downside to PPC advertising is that it can be extremely expensive and most top keywords and phrases are overpriced. Unless you monitor these campaigns very close, you can end up spending a lot more on clicks then you actually convert to sales. Bulk traffic should be considered as part of any advertising campaign. It is extremely inexpensive compared to targeted traffic and is a fast way to broadcast your website or service.
