How does boycotting Chinese Olympics help Tibet/Human Rights?

The Chinese are anxious to make a good impression on the International stage with their presentation of the Olympics. The Tibetans know this…they are using the global attention to publicize their plight. They are hoping the Chinese will shift their policies to avoid international embarrassment. It will be disasterous for the Chinese if more top competitors boycott the Olympics.

China is simply not interested in developing human rights issues. They have a form of government that works for them and they see no reason to change it. The ‘riots’ in Tibet have been staged and plan for this time simply to draw attention to the Tibetan plight and they hope that the rest of the world will bring some pressure to bear on China’s government. Such will not be the case…..China is simply not interested nor do they benefit in exploring human rights as the free world understands those rights to be. Put another way….the free world needs China….China has amply demonstrated that they do not need the free world and they can handle their own internal situations.

boycotting the Olympic ceremony will have no affect the same way boycotting Cuban goods has done nothing to help their human rights problems
