How does “Black Dynamite” compare to the other spoof comedy films out there?
Scott Sanders: I think a lot of spoof movies satirize what’s going on in the news right now and what we wanted to do was just make a movie that was very close to a blaxploitation movie, but only 10% too much so. If you look at our poster, Black Dynamite has a gun, but he also has nunchucks in his hand. The nunchucks are the extra 10%, so it’s like, “Why do you have nunchucks when you already have a gun?” We wanted the satire to be fairly close to the originals and not go wildly outside the genre. Michael Jai White: Those films are usually broken up into small little sketches, while our film is one whole piece. The other films are often describes as nothing but a bunch of fart jokes while Black Dynamite” seems to have more substance to it. Scott Sanders: Yeah, there was so much stuff we could make fun of and play with in the genre of blaxploitation. We didn’t have to go and make Britney Spears jokes or whatever.
