How does baking powder submarines work?
There is an area inside the baking powder sub that holds baking powder. This area closes completely, except for a small hole on the bottom of the sub. When placed in water, the sub sinks. The baking powder reacts with water to produce carbon dioxide bubbles. An air bubble is formed under the sub which gives it just enough buoyancy to rise to the top of the water level.
