Bactroban is an antibacterial agent and acts by selectively binding to bacterial isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase. This selective binding to bacterial enzyme stops the production of essential proteins needed by the bacteria to survive. It is a unique mechanism of action and owing to this feature the repeated use of this medication can also lead to cross-resistance.
