How does bacteria, a grasshopper, fish, and a bear acquire and process nutrients?
Bacteria may secrete exoenzymes out of the cell which digest nutrients. The nutrients are absorb by the bacterial cells. Grasshoppers are primarily herbivores but have been known to eat animal tissues as well. They have chewing mouth parts and a digestive system. Depending upon the species of fish, the fish may be a carnivore or herbivore, or omnivore. They have jaws, teeth, and digestive tract similar to humans. Bears are omnivorous eating plants and animals. They will eat almost anything, even scavenging from other animals’ kills. Their teeth and powerful forelimbs and claws allows them to kill, turn over large rocks to obtain grubs, pull up grass, collect berries, dig out clams and rodents from their burrows.
