On a few occasions now since my arrival into this part of the world I have been asked for my opinion on the food and how it differs from that which is classed as Chinese food in western countries. Well, firstly and this is purely my opinion no comparison. I am living in Sichuan province and it is renowned as being the place in China for getting the best food. I have been informed of this by the locals on many occasions; well it is certainly the spiciest. I am sure that every region or province of China will lay claim to being the best at what it regards as its specialty, when I first arrived in China in the summer of 2007 I was working in the north eastern city of Harbin and they made a similar claim to the quality of their local dishes. In that area the dumplings, pastry cases filled with a variety of fillings usually meat, fish or vegetables and fried or steamed were considered to be the regions specialty.
