How does Australian universities compare with US universities when it comes world recognition ?

Aussie varsities are on par with US ones so far as good education. But world recognition is still with USA with their ivy league colleges and universities. However, on employment, I feel Australian degrees are accepted as well as any other country all over the world. I do not think world recognition is a criterion for employment.
