Australia Post is a Government Business Enterprise that operates under the legislative and administrative framework of the Australian Postal Corporation Act 1989. The Australian Government’s role is mainly restricted to that of determining the broad strategic policy framework and goals for Australia Post. Australia Post’s Board and management are responsible for the day-to-day running of the organisation. Australia Post has operated under a corporate model since 1989, with the Government as sole shareholder and Post operating on a commercial basis at arms length from the Government.
