How does an turbine generates electricity?
A turbine is a rotating device that transforms linear energy from a liner energy source, a moving fluid or gas, into rotational energy. That rotation is then attached to a generator that makes electricity, the turbine itself is a purely mechanical device and does not generate electricity by itself. The moving fluids and vapors can be wind, water from a river or lake, steam from a boiler or burning hot gas from a combustion system. Some figures are in in the pages linked below, also go to the Siemens home page, they make steam and gas turbines as well as wind.
