How does an operational plan link back to the organisations strategic plan?
Briefly – the operational plan is how the business operates from day-to-day this includes all areas of the business not just say sales, but finances, human resources, products and services, customer feedback etc etc how it fits into the strat plan is that all these things needs to be reviewed regularly – as do policies, procedures, working documents – the strat plan can also be projected forward thinking for how to grow, improve etc the business, how to keep abreast with changing trends and markets etc, most have a 12 mnth plan, 2-3r plan, 5 yr plan, 10 yr plan – strategic planning looks at strengths and weakness of the biz internally and externally measured against competitors – hope this helps – look it up on line its much more in depth than this but this should give you some idea of how to answer your qtn.
A Strategic Plan begins with the identification of the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organisation. From this, the leadership team must identify the strategies that will help move them in the direction of the Vision, while achieving the day-to-day operational Mission. At that point, the Strategic Plan starts to get more operational in nature. each strategy is broken down and specific Objectives are created to support the strategy. Objectives are the leadership team’s best guess at what needs to be done in order to be successful in achieving the strategy. Objectives are often broken down even further so that projects and initiatives are created to achieve the objectives. The operational plan for a department typically consists of: – a subset of the organisational strategies and objectives (ie the ones they contribute to) – numerical measures of success – ownership and accountability Hope this helps!
