How does an inflatable tool differ from a conventional tool?
The significant difference between an inflatable tool and a more conventional tool is in the expansion characteristics. Inflatable tools can have expansion ratios in excess of 300%. This is what allows inflatable tools to be conveyed into wells where either planned or unplanned restrictions exist and still create an effective seal below the restriction. Also, the flexibility of an inflatable element allows for setting in irregular IDs such as open holes, where more conventional packing elements have limited success.
