How Does an ESL Teacher Spend a Workday?
In the Classroom Schools that teach English as a second language will draw most of their customers from either students or people who work. They must therefore offer classes when these people can come. The normal full-time schedule will consist of one course at around lunchtime and two to three classes starting sometime after 5 p.m. They may have a morning class before the work day beings, but this is rare. This schedule could be a mix of regular courses and private students, and the classes themselves can last from 60 to 90 minutes. The content of these classes will depend heavily upon the school’s format and the level of English being covered. However, one constant is letting the students practice as much as they can, which means keeping teacher talking time (TTT) to a minimum.
