How does an audit differ from an inspection?
The audit will be an essential part of the risk management process to check compliance with risk management plans. The auditor will also check service and maintenance records and the results of microbiological testing. All risk management plans will be audited on an annual basis. Inspections, on the other hand, will be random and conducted on-site by inspectors from the Department of Human Services. Generally inspections will occur for high-risk cooling tower systems, systems that receive non-compliance reports from auditors and systems implicated in cases or outbreaks of Legionnaires’ disease. While this will be the priority for the random inspections, cooling tower systems not falling within these categories will also be targeted in the random inspection program.
