How Does an Arborist Evaluate Tree Hazards?
Living on the California Central Coast or other forested areas often brings special concerns from potential tree related hazards to life and property. Many homes and properties are situated in the densely forested area in the windward foothills of the coastal mountain range where trees get big and storms get intense. Many areas in the Santa Cruz Mountains have a very dense population of large native trees. Many of the trees, especially Redwoods and Firs, have a height in excess of 150 feet, and a trunk diameter in excess of four feet, some of the largest trees reaching 200 feet in height or more. The greatest concerns for property owners living in a forest like this and/or along a waterway are obviously the potential hazards to life and property from falling trees and tree parts. The size of some of the trees and proximity to the adjacent homes creates a potential for property damage and/or personal injury from: • limb or top breakage often associated with heavy winds during storm cond
