How does an Advanced Diploma in Advanced Care Paramedicine fit into the academic world?
You graduate from the ACP program with an Advanced Diploma in Paramedicine. It is this diploma that allows you to take the licensing examination through the EMA Licensing Board which acts as the registrar of your license to practice as an ACP. This is essentially your “professional credential”. In the world of academics the postsecondary education institutions grant a variety of certificates, diplomas, degrees, etc for any number of areas of interest or topics. This would be considered your “academic credential”. For many years there has been little connection between what you do to get your professional credential in paramedicine and your ability to further complete an academic credential using what you have earned via your professional training to apply as credit towards what you would need to do to complete a degree etc. This is changing slowly, though there are still many institutions that will not recognized other institutions training/education for a variety of reasons.
