An absorption spectrum will show the full electromagnetic spectrum, with occasional dark bands. An emission spectrum will be totally dark except for a few BRIGHT bands. http://www.cartage.org.lb/en/themes/Scie… The top one is the electromagnetic spectrum (in the visible wavelengths). The middle one is an emission spectrum and the bottom one is an absorption spectrum (although, the bands should really be black instead of white).
