How does altitude affect the climate of places?

Very much. It will depend on where the mountains/altitude are, and what side of the mountain you are on, how your local climate is affected. Examples: Sierra Nevadas of California/Nevada. West of the mountains, in California, more precipitation. East of the mountains, in Nevada, in the “rain shadow” the climate is much drier. Northern Arizona. Flagstaff is at nearly 7000 feet. It has 4 seasons, gets a bit more precip than lower areas, so is actually in the middle of a ponderosa pine forest, while much of Arizona is very very dry and much warmer, and has more desert vegetation.
