I believe that Alexander Pearce is at the very heart of what it is to be Australian, and alongside many other colonial stories of convict hardship, he should be considered as relevant as people like Burke & Wills or Captain Cook. When the early convicts came to these shores they came across an alien landscape that was harshly beautiful and I imagine that some were terrified by it.
