How does alcohol produce dyspnea to asthmatic patients?
Alcohol depresses the central nervous system which controls breathing and can in some cases decrease the breathing rate. Asthmatics have an already impaired breathing system and the breathing depression leads to dyspnea which may not be reversed by their usual medication. The same is true for depressant action medications like morphine for example.
