How does ADSL achieve high data rates?
• ADSL increases the bandwidth of an existing phone line by making use of unused bandwidth. Most cable is only using 4000 Hz of cable bandwidth for transmission of voice and modem. By using the 1.1 Megahertz bandwidth capability of phone cable, data rates of over 8 Million bits per second (bps) are possible (compared to the maximum rate of 56 kbps for today’s V.90 modems).
