How does activated carbon work and what is it capable of ?
It works through a process known as adsorption. As the water passes over the extensive surface of the carbon, the contaminants are reduced. The longer the water can be in contact with the carbon, i.e.. the slower the rate of flow and the fresher the carbon, the better the performance. Activated carbon has an excellent affinity for many of the contaminants, chemicals, tastes, odours, chlorine, etc. in drinking water.
