How does Accelerated Reader work?
Accelerated Reader involves three steps: 1. The student selects a book in his/her reading level. 2. The student reads the book. 3. The student takes the computerized quiz to test for comprehension. Upon completion of Accelerated Reader quizzes, students will receive reports called TOPS (Taking Opportunities to Praise Students). These reports will be used by the teacher to monitor student progress. These reports will then be sent home with students so that parents will also have a record of progress toward Accelerated Reader Goals.
