How does academic advising work within the residential college system?
Academic advising of freshmen and sophomores continues to take place in the colleges. When students become juniors and seniors, theykeep their affiliation with their colleges, even if they no longer reside in them. Non-departmental academic advising of juniors and seniorsis transferred from West College deans to the dean and director of studies of the college with which each student is affiliated. The colleges offer expanded services in writing assistance, fellowship advising, specialized advising events and career advising. Also, the 10 graduate students resident in each of the six collegesare given specific assignments related to academic, cultural and residential programming.
