In August 2007, USGBC announced projects seeking certification are eligible to earn an “Innovation in Design” point by using building products and materials that have been certified carbon neutral by a reputable, independent third-party certifier, and that the product’s entire line of supply and manufacture is climate neutral. In March, the USGBC defined what was required in order to earn the Innovation in Design point. The following excerpt is the ruling as outlined in the Innovation in Design Credit Catalog.
